What wisdom lies in the minds of the elderly. Their ancient and anachronistic wisdom, though useful it may be at times, is generally out of time and out of touch. The intelligence contained therein is only relevant to an extent. Which makes it ludicrous to stack our halls of power with a demographic making long term decisions they will not suffer the consequences of. Remember Abbot's claims Australia didn't need a national broadband network, he also claimed that Homosexual marriages would disintegrate the sanctimony of marriage. Such Neanderthalic ideas are best left out of the grander public sphere and only serve the interests and ideologies of persons raised in a more ignorant age. One where exclusion, derision, and ultimately discrimination of any group that wasn't rich, white, Anglo-Saxon and protestant. The solution, an equal representation in policy making.
Oh no, did this guy just allude to the solution being identity politics. Well I guess so, if that's what you want to define it as boring old conservative gatekeeper. It does make it easier for you to demonise equalatrial politics, or to put another spin on it, the democratic ideals that hold together the fabric of Australian society. Which is why we need to address the imbalance of Australian politics with demographic based inclusion laws allowing for every group of Australian citizens to have their voices, and votes, heard and registered equally. The solution, get rid of corrupt corporate shills who hold the needs of corporate fascists over the needs of the peasant masses. The solution is to rid ourselves of domineering bigoted baby boomers whose only defence is "Well this is how things were in my day" because if they haven't noticed it is no longer their day.
